What do I need to become a Driving Instructor?

- You should be aged from 21 years old.
- You should have held a UK manual driving license for at least 3 years
- Not have been disqualified from driving in the last 4 years before applying to join the ADI (Advanced Driving Instructor) register.
- You should not have more than 6 penalty points on your driving licence.
- You should be fit and healthy.
- Be able to pass a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check, which is currently renewed every 4 years.

The type of person who makes an outstanding instructor needs to have the following traits:
Patience: to teach other people the skill of driving to others you need to be understanding patient as someone that gets frustrated or annoyed will knock the confidence of the learner driver.
Friendly: You should be a people person and enjoying meeting new people and care about your pupils.
Organised: As a driving instructor you expected to organise your own diary and arrive on time for your driving lessons and there is nothing more frustrating for pupils, and their parents if an instructor is always late for the driving lesson.

Good Communicator: Instructors must be able to communicate instructions to their pupil and adapt the style of teaching to the pupil that they are teaching.
Professional: Driving Instructors are expected to treat their pupils with respect and courtesy, they are also expected to arrive to lessons on time, with a clean and tidy car and smart appearance.
